Data Breach August 2020 FAQs

The questions and answers below relate to a data breach that occurred on a Noble Samurai server on 2nd August, 2020. This information may be relevant to you if you had an account with us before the 2nd August, 2020.

What happened?

An unknown party targeted and breached one of our servers. They were then able to use the credentials on this server to access user data. This was a criminal act and has been reported to the appropriate authorities.

When did this happen?

We first became aware of the breach on August 2nd. We immediately took action to contain the suspicious activity, and launched an internal investigation.

What products were affected?

The products potentially impacted were:

  • Article Samurai
  • Market Samurai
  • Domain Samurai
  • Scarcity Samurai
  • Content Samurai
  • Question Samurai
  • Rank Tracker Samurai
  • Vidsy
  • Scriptnami
  • Vidnami

What are you doing to protect my data from here on?

We take this event and the security of your information very seriously. These are the specific actions we are taking to protect your data moving forward:

  • We have reset everyone's passwords on all our systems.
  • We are now providing better feedback about the strength of your passwords.
  • We are updating our infrastructure to make it more secure.
  • We have increased our monitoring for suspicious activities.
  • We have engaged cybersecurity experts to conduct an independent investigation.
  • We will limit the data we collect to the minimum required to provide our service.
  • We will ensure that data is deleted when it is no longer required to provide our service.

What data has been accessed?

The specific data we store depends on the nature of your relationship with us. For example, we store less data for people who are undertaking a free trial than we do for people who are affiliates.

Please refer to the email you received to understand the data that has been accessed based on the relationship you have with our company.

Regardless of your relationship with our company, we do not store any financial data such as credit card numbers on our systems.

What should I do?

There are two things you should do in response to this incident:

  1. The next time you log into one of our products or your Noble Samurai account you will need to reset your password.
  2. If you use the same passwords on other systems, update your passwords on those systems as well. Preferably with strong and unique passwords.

This approach will allow you to safely continue to use our services, and at the same time minimise the risk to your other online accounts.

Are my payment details secure?

Yes - We do not store credit card details on our systems. The only thing we may store is your PayPal email address (but not your password).

Should I update my password elsewhere?

If you use the same passwords on other online accounts, you should update those passwords to protect those accounts. Preferably with strong and unique passwords.

How can I protect my data online?

We recommend that you use a secure password manager like 1Password or LastPass (which has a free version), and that you set a strong and unique password for each of your online accounts.

You can also monitor your email address for free using sites such as SpyCloud.com and HaveIBeenPwned.com
