GENERATING KEYWORDS

•      Phrase Length - minimum and maximum number of words allowed in a keyword phrase
•      Add Permutations - adds every possible combination of words in the seed keyword to the keyword
        list
e.g.    If your seed keyword is "fishing for trout" and you hit 'Add Permutations' then you will see the
            following added to the list:
                                 fishing for trout
                                 fishing trout for
                                 trout for fishing
                                 trout fishing for
                                 for fishing trout
                                 for trout fishing

ORGANIC SEO

•      Searches (Total Searches) - The daily number of people who search for a particular keyword
e.g.    If your keyword returns the number 123,090 then on average that keyword is searched
            123,090 times per day

•      SEOT (SEO Traffic) - The maximum potential daily clicks that a #1 ranked site for this keyword term
could potentially achieve. Indicator of potential traffic value of a keyword. This figure is directly
proportional to the Searches value (calculated as 42% of Searches)
•      PBR (Phrase-to-Broad Ratio) - The percentage of phrase-match searches out of broad-match
searches for this keyword. A low values indicate there may be other word orderings which are being
searched for more. This figure is a direct comparison of the results from a phrase match search and
        a broad matched search.
e.g.    If we look at the two searches "online lottery" and "lottery online", they both have the same
Broad Searches value, but "online lottery" has a PBR of 25% whilst "lottery online" has a PBR of
16%. This means that whilst there are 5,425 searches per day that include the keywords "online"
and "lottery", the number of searches per day for the phrase "online lottery" is 1,332, whilst the
number per day for "lottery online" is 891. PBR helps to determine the best order for your keywords
to maximise the potential of your keywords.
Please note: In the past, PBR was a good indicator of whether a keyword was in the best (most commonly-used) word order. However now that the search numbers are no longer available by match type, we calculate Broad and Phrase search numbers based on ad impressions information, which does not correlate as strongly. We do not recommend relying on PBR as you may have done in the past!

•      Trends - This graph indicates monthly traffic trends for a particular keyword. This can be very
important to take into account as it can indicate whether there is seasonal variation.
e.g.    Here we have four separate examples, each demonstrating a very different trend:
Christmas ("Christmas" Search Trends)- Has a seasonal variation, with a single
spike occuring per year. If you optimise around a keyword with a variation like this
you will experience some very slim months with very few searches.
Village Cinemas ("Village Cinema" Search Trends)- Has a seasonal variation, similar
to that of Christmas, however instead of spending most of the year with nearly no
searches, the base number of searches remains relatively stable, but spikes sharply
during the school holiday periods. Optimising around this keyword would give you a
stable amount of traffic, but with dramatic increases during holiday periods.
Support ("Support" Search Trends) - Support is an excellent example of a very stable
keyword with a very low amount of variation. Optimising around this keyword would
generate a very steady traffic flow without peaks or troughs.

  • Adwords Impressions (AWI) - The number of times your ad would be shown as the #1-ranked advertiser for this keyword in Bing.

COMMERCIALITY

AWCPC must be considered alongside the SEOT score for a keyword to be fully understood. AWCPC is used together with SEOT to give the SEOV score.
•      SEOV (SEO Value) - The total value of traffic a website ranked #1 in Bing for the keyword could
potentially achieve. SEOV = AWCPC x SEOT.

OTHER

•      Positive Keywords - This option allows you to broadly filter the keyword list based on a keyword you
        wish to analyse.
e.g.    If you had the list:
                                 trout fishing
                                 extreme trout fishing
                                 trout fly fishing
                                 fly fishing
                                 New Zealand trout fishing
                                 river trout
And you wished to only have keywords that contained "trout", you enter "trout" into the Positive
Keywords and click Update. This will immediately look through the keyword list and remove all
of those keywords that DO NOT contain this keyword, leaving you with the list:
                                 trout fishing
                                 extreme trout fishing
                                 trout fly fishing
                                 New Zealand trout fishing
                                 river trout

•      Negative Keywords - This option allows you to broadly filter the keyword list based on a keyword you
        do not wish to analyse.
e.g.    If you had the list:
                                 trout fishing
                                 extreme trout fishing
                                 trout fly fishing
                                 fly fishing
                                 New Zealand trout fishing
                                 river trout
And you decided you didn't want to analyse anything relating to "fly fishing", you enter "fly fishing"
into the Negative Keywords and click update and the list would be filtered to be:
                                 trout fishing
                                 extreme trout fishing
                                 New Zealand trout fishing
                                 river trout
