Pretty Links error: "(401): Sorry, you must be an administrator to access this resource"

If you're receiving the "(401): Sorry, you must be an administrator to access this resource" error when attempting to use Pretty Links, and you're sure the account you're using is an admin account, please do the following:

  1. Log into your WordPress admin control panel.
  2. Click Users on the left.
  3. Click the checkbox next to the administrator account, whatever its name is. (i.e. the one you used to log-in)
  4. Above the list of users, you should see a drop-down box with the text "Change role to..." in it. Choose the option "Administrator" from the drop -down box.
  5. Click the "Change" button to the right of the drop-down box.

This changes the administrator accounts to administrator ones (again!), which resets some fields that sometimes end up set incorrectly by a WordPress bug, causing the Pretty Links issue.
